On August 9, 2026, Venerable Sing Kan, Abbess of Sam Poh Thong, accepted a gracious invitation from Mr. and Mrs. Yeoh Wai Foong (transliteration) to attend the “Hues of Harmony” (《华彩和鸣》) Chinese Orchestra concert presented by the Malaysian Century Chinese Orchestra (MCCO) at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). Accompanying Venerable Sing Kan were Venerable Chang Cheng and Venerable Zhen Kang.

The concert was led by MCCO Music Director Chong Koi Min and featured guest artist Ma Wai Him, Suona Principal and Guan virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. The orchestra delivered a vibrant musical performance blending traditional Eastern and Western instruments—including the Erhu, Pipa, Yangqin, Sheng, Cello, Double Bass, and Reed pipes—to create a rich synthesis of cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expression.

A key highlight of the program was the world premiere of the Char Siu Bao Rhapsody, a composition that creatively integrated the familiar melody of the classic Cantonese pop song into a dynamic rhapsody framework. The piece reflected urban culture and engaged the audience in an interactive stage moment simulating the preparation of the famous traditional delicacy.

For the finale encore, the orchestra performed a jazz-style arrangement reminiscent of 1963. In a poignant moment of cultural continuity, virtuoso Ma Wai Him invited his father, veteran performer Ma Wing Sing, and his son to join him on stage. Together, three generations performed the iconic piece Descendants of the Dragon, evoking enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The monastic delegation from Sam Poh Thong expressed appreciation to the organizers and performers for their dedication to artistic excellence, affirming the importance of supporting and preserving traditional arts and cultural heritage within the broader community.
