SPT Sunday School is a Buddhist education programme under Sam Poh Thong Edu Care Centre, conducted within the temple environment to nurture children, teenagers, and adults through meaningful Dharma learning and life education.
Guided by the spirit of “Nurturing Wisdom Seeds”, we aim to provide a joyful, safe, and supportive learning space where wisdom, compassion, and good character can gradually grow and be integrated into daily life.
SPT Sunday School is designed as a holistic Buddhist learning journey that supports individuals across different stages of life.
It provides a foundation in moral values and Dharma understanding, while also creating opportunities for learners to develop confidence in communication, especially through interactive and English-supported learning experiences.
Our aim is to lay a strong foundation for lifelong Dharma learning, helping everyone cultivate wisdom, compassion, and mindfulness in daily living.
We believe learning in the temple is not only about knowledge, but about nurturing wholesome character and inner transformation.
SPT Sunday School integrates Buddhist education with practical life learning through structured yet engaging methods.
We provide:
All programmes are guided by three core approaches:
Life Education
Helping learners understand values, emotions, relationships, and real-life decision-making through Buddhist perspectives.
Experiential Learning
Learning through direct experience such as camps, activities, and real-life engagement rather than theory alone.
Activity-Based Learning
Encouraging learning through interactive, hands-on, and collaborative activities that make Dhamma meaningful and enjoyable.
Children and teenagers are grouped according to age to ensure appropriate and effective learning experiences.
The programme focuses on:
Our goal is to help young learners grow with kindness, wisdom, and strong moral grounding.
The Adult Dharma Class is open to the public and also welcomes parents of Sunday School participants who wish to deepen their understanding of the Dhamma.
This class is primarily focused on systematic Buddhist learning within the temple environment, providing a structured space to explore the teachings of the Buddha in a clear, practical, and meaningful way.
Participants are encouraged to:
This serves as a continuous learning platform for anyone seeking to grow in Dhamma understanding, regardless of background or experience.
Learning at SPT Sunday School extends beyond classroom teaching. It is designed to be interactive, experiential, and community-based.
Activities include:
Through these experiences, learners develop not only knowledge, but also values, confidence, and social awareness.
We believe that education within the temple is most meaningful when there is strong collaboration between the temple and parents.
SPT Sunday School encourages open communication and partnership with parents to support each child’s growth in:
From 2026 onwards, we place greater emphasis on parent involvement within the Sunday School ecosystem. Parents are encouraged to actively support their children’s learning journey not only through awareness, but through participation and contribution within temple activities.
Parents are invited to support the temple community through:
Through this shared commitment, we aim to create a supportive learning environment where children are nurtured consistently within both temple and home settings.
Together, we hope to build a strong foundation of values, understanding, and growth for every learner.
SPT Sunday School is committed to providing a safe, caring, and supportive environment for students, teachers, and parents within the temple community.
The Welfare Department oversees overall well-being and support systems to ensure that learning takes place in a healthy and positive environment.
It focuses on:
SPT Sunday School also collaborates with an external professional counsellor. When necessary, students may be referred for professional counselling support in a careful and appropriate manner.
In addition, the Welfare Department organises parenting workshops to support parents in understanding their children’s emotional needs, strengthening communication, and promoting positive values-based parenting.
Through these efforts, we aim to nurture not only learning, but also the well-being of the entire Sunday School community — students, parents, and teachers alike.
SPT Sunday School welcomes children and teenagers who wish to learn, grow, and explore life through the lens of Buddhism in a joyful and supportive environment.
