Ven. Sing Kan Delivers Plenary Address at IV International Buddhist Forum in Russia, Showcasing Malaysia’s Interfaith Model
Venerable Sing Kan, Abbess of Sam Poh Thong Buddhist Temple, President of the Malaysian Buddhist Bhikkhuni Association (MBBA), and Committee Member of the Interfaith Harmony Committee (HARMONI) under the Ministry of National Unity Malaysia, delivered a plenary address at the IV International Buddhist Forum held in Russia on August 18, 2026.
Addressing the forum’s overarching theme, “Buddhism in the Dialogue of Cultures: The Future of Humanity,” Venerable Sing Kan highlighted a critical paradox of the modern world: while rapid technological advancement and digital connectivity bring humanity closer than ever, global communities are increasingly experiencing heightened cultural friction, religious misunderstanding, and societal polarization.
To navigate this global challenge, Venerable Sing Kan presented Malaysia as a living and inspiring model of interfaith harmony. In a multicultural nation comprising diverse ethnicities, languages, and religions, maintaining inter-religious harmony is not merely an optional aspiration, but an essential necessity for peace and nation-building. She highlighted the positive synergy between grassroots civil society and structured government initiatives through Jawatankuasa HARMONI, which successfully transforms interfaith dialogue into concrete, shared social action—including humanitarian aid, youth development, and environmental protection.
Looking toward the future of humanity, Venerable Sing Kan emphasized that authentic human unity cannot rely solely on physical proximity or digital platforms. The true foundation of global connection lies in embracing universally shared ethical values while genuinely respecting, appreciating, and honoring cultural and religious diversity.
Concluding her address, Venerable Sing Kan affirmed: “The future of humanity will not be secured by weapons or walls, but by the bridges of dialogue, wisdom, and compassion we build together,” drawing warm appreciation and deep resonance from international delegates.
(Buddhism in the Dialogue of Cultures: The Future of Humanity)。
